Join us on August 2 at 9:00 AM for the kickoff of Tridente: A Civic Triad, a new District 3 initiative bringing together residents, local businesses, and city leadership to help make our community cleaner, safer, and stronger.
We’ll meet at Buzz Mill Coffee on Town Creek, grab a coffee, and work together to clean and beautify Elmont Drive in 78741—from Buzz Mill’s back door all the way to the trail and park at the end of Elmont. Volunteers will help clean city curbs, sidewalks, empty lots, and wooded areas along the route.
The cleanup will be joined by Joe Begley, District 3 Council Member José Velásquez, Buzz Mill Coffee, Squatch Fitness, local businesses, community members, and support from Keep Austin Beautiful.
After the cleanup, we’ll return to Buzz Mill for tacos, coffee, and an open community conversation about practical ways we can continue working together to make District 3 better.
Gloves, trash bags, and grabbers will be available. Please wear appropriate outdoor clothing, closed-toe shoes, and long pants. Bring your own gloves if you have them.

Join us for this introductory in-person course on mushroom cultivation. We’ll guide you through the basics from inoculation to harvest teaching and some pro-tips on how to cultivate on a budget! If Rachel Ray were an astronaut this would be how she cooks mushrooms.

This hands-on workshop is your perfect escape into a tactile world where the focus is on the feel of the grain and the rhythm of your tool. We’ll start with safety and knife handling, then dive into the essential skills of woodcarving from Camp Master Chris Hyde. You'll discover how this ancient craft is a fantastic stress-reliever, improving focus and leaving you with a profound sense of accomplishment.

Turn simple ingredients into essential survival: craft your own soap
In this workshop participants will learn how to make hot-process soap safely and with confidence! We’ll cover supplies, ingredients, safety procedures, basic formulation theory and scenting with essential oils. Create a one-pound batch (four bars) of soap scented with essential oils of your choosing, perfect for gifts as well as personal use.

Craft Timeless Baskets from Nature’s Materials with the Buzz Mill’s Lumber Society
Pine needle basketry offers both the beginner and expert basket maker an equal opportunity for satisfaction. With almost endless variations, sizes, and shapes that can be created using only thread and a bundle of needles, each camper is sure to leave with a beautiful and functional hand-stitched basket.
This is a lengthy process. Your basket will look more like a coaster at first, but you’ll have all the skills needed to weave your own custom-made baskets.

The Buzz Mill Shore Corps along with Squatch Frontier Fitness, the Texas River School, and the Lumber Society are hosting a big Town Lake Shore Clean on Saturday, June 27, from 8:30 to 11:30am! We’ll be attacking the trash from the shore and from the water with eight canoes at our disposal!
We’ll have 2-person canoes available for use to get on the water and grab all the trash that can’t be reached from the shore. This is the work that most needs to be done, and it can be fun doing it. Our canoe spots will be filled first-come first-serve, so show up early!
We’ll meet at Buzz Mill Coffee, 1505 Town Creek Drive, at 8:30am. Afterward we’ll head back to Buzz Mill and Santo Patio for a snack and a drink on us!
We will provide tools and gloves (bring your own if you'd like) but bring a water bottle and wear work-appropriate clothing: long pants, long-sleeved shirt, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, bug spray. Thanks!

Because of the inventions above, the art and skill of navigating naturally has been all but forgotten. During this class we will discuss how to estimate time, determine direction, distance, and navigate from point to point over long distances. This is a wonderful introduction class to the world of the naturalist & survivalist and these simple navigation methods will forever stay with you as you adventure into the wilderness.
